I have never fed my finches blueberries, but I have a large batch of wild blueberries and I wanted to give it a try, to see if they like them.

I don't remember seeing blueberries on the unsafe list of finch foods, but I wanted to check with you guys first to be sure :)

Please let me know if you know if they are safe, and if anyone has tried blueberries.

On the finch information center page, http://www.finchinfo.com/diet/safe_toxic_and_unsafe_foods.php it says this down near the bottom of the page:

"If providing any of these foods, do so in moderation:"
"Thiaminase destroys thiamin;5 it is in raw fish, red cabbage, beets, Brussels sprouts, and berries, and is produced by some microorganisms that can inhabit that GI tract."

Like Debbie said they are safe. I have given my birds blueberries before a couple times but they would never touch them.

My finches won't eat blueberries, even chopped. My Green Cheek only eats them if sliced in half. :?

Someone recommended this to me when I said I once tried to give my birds banana and they never touched it. Maybe you can try putting their favorite seed inside the fruit. Maybe even millet to make them really try what you want them to try.

My birds are not a fan of carrots though.

Yes, isn't it funny, most of my birds aren't fond of carrots either. They will eat them some, but prefer broccoli. I think the next time I make birdie bread, I will try adding some ground-up carrots--carrot cake for birds!

It is weird. Today, I chopped up a bit of carrot and cabbage from our fresh coleslaw bag for them and they only touched the cabbage. They do like a lot of other green veggies I've given them to experiment, or at least they've tried them out for me. When I bought some kale a couple weeks ago, it was mainly for my turtles to eat but I also gave some to my birds. My turtles never touched them but my birds gobbled them up in no time.

Heh, carrot cake for birds.

Dante, kale is excellent for your birds. It is one of the best greens to feed them. I've also used collard greens, spinach in moderation, romaine, but they love kale. I believe Donna was growing it in her garden for her birds. It is a cool weather crop here, so I think I'll try growing my own for a while.
